Soft dumplings made with golden syrup, filled with Caramello chocolate, and cooked in a rich golden syrup sauce. Serve them warm with vanilla ice cream for the ultimate dessert!
Ingredients
For the Dumplings:
- 50g melted butter
- ⅓ cup (80g) golden syrup
- ½ cup milk (room temperature)
- 1 ½ cups plain flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 10-12 pieces of Caramello chocolate
For the Sauce:
- 50g butter
- 1 cup brown sugar
- ½ cup (140g) golden syrup
- 2 cups boiling water
To Serve:
- Vanilla ice cream
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Set your oven to 180°C fan bake (or standard bake if needed).
- Prepare the Dumpling Dough:
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the melted butter and golden syrup. Heat in the microwave for about 45 seconds, or until the butter is fully melted.
- Stir in the milk and whisk everything together.
- Sift the flour and baking powder into the bowl. Mix gently with a spatula or dough whisk until a soft dough forms. Set it aside while you prepare the sauce.
- Make the Sauce:
- In an oven-safe dish or a large saucepan, combine the butter, brown sugar, golden syrup, and boiling water.
- Cook over low heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture starts to gently simmer.
- Form the Dumplings:
- Scoop out a heaped tablespoon of dough and place a piece of Caramello chocolate in the center.
- Wrap the dough around the chocolate to seal it and roll it into a ball.
- Place each dumpling into the simmering sauce. Repeat until all the dough is used (you should have about 10-12 dumplings).
- Cook the Dumplings:
- Gently turn each dumpling to coat it in the sauce. Let them simmer for 2 minutes.
- Transfer the dish to the oven and bake for 15 minutes, or until the dumplings are cooked through and the sauce has thickened.
- Serve:
- Remove the dumplings from the oven. Serve them warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Notes:
- For a simpler version, you can skip the Caramello filling and make plain dumplings.
- Ensure the sauce is gently simmering before adding the dumplings for even cooking.
